This year's theme is: 'New Therapeutic Approaches to Smoking Cessation'.

  • Tobacco addiction is a complex disorder that involves many neurotransmitter systems and behavioral processes. There has been some progress toward improved tobacco cessation treatments, yet long-term success rates remain modest. New therapeutic approaches are needed to increase overall effectiveness, as well as addressing the diverse needs of different smokers. This conference will bring together leading experts on the forefront of developing novel treatment approaches, which include novel ways of using nicotine replacement therapy, new compounds acting on nicotinic receptors, anti-nicotine vaccines, as well as non-nicotinic receptor drugs, and innovative behavioral and genome-based treatment approaches. Speakers will describe the latest advances in treatment development and will discuss strategies for translating this cutting edge research into more effective tools to combat tobacco addiction.
